Fun Facts About Davao You Do Not Know About but Should

As a region to which the current Philippine president is hailed from, the Davao region—or, at least, a part of it—had previously gained buzz which had probably attracted the attention of many. But wanting to know a particular part of the country out of curiosity and askingwhat the place is like specifically for travels are probably two different things which answer diverse set of questions.

Then again, you must also be a foreigner to not know what Davao is. But, trust me, you are not alone in this;even the locals from remote region too may have only heard of the place and not have a bit of idea of what the place is really like.

Here are some fun facts about Davao that many people do not know but should:

  1. Originally called by a different name
  1. Holds the largest city

Many people may have the assumption that Metro Manila has the largest city in the country. However, that notion is wrong. In reality, Davao City is the largest urban area in the nation as it is three times as large as the whole of Metro Manila combined.

  1. Land of the “King of Fruits”

You may hate it or for its scent or love it for its taste, but Durian—the “King of Fruits”—is commonplace in Davao. In fact, it is so typical and prominent in the region that a statue was erected to commemorate its significance among Davaoenos. For a place thriving with this unusual fruit, you can imagine how cheap it would be when bought from it than elsewhere.

  1. Home to the tallest mountain in the country

If there is anything that the Davao region can be somehow renowned, it is likely due to the fact that it nests the country’s most towering peak, the Mount Apo. If you are a climber who likes to conquertall mountains, this particular landmass is your greatest challenge in all of the country which is a good step towards more challenging mountains from overseas.

  1. Has one of the nicest beaches

Although somewhat overshadowed by the popularity of similar venues from its northern parts in the Visayas region, Davao has one of the most pleasant shores there are in the country. For instance, the Dahikan beach at Mati city.

One good thing about less prominent than the usual tourist sites that are often flocked with people is that it makes the place less commercialized and is thus enjoyed more for its relaxation. Just take it as having the beauty that make Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu the tourist magnets that they are, minus the crowd.
